The railway expired definitely with the capitalization in 1993 and the systematic dismissal of nearly 1,000 workers. Then we continue to Colchani Village, a small town located on the shores of the Great Salt Lake, 22km away from Uyuni, with a population of few hundred Indians, which is the main entrance to Salt Mines, the biggest salt deposit in the world. Colchani is 3680 masl and with an area of 12,000 km ², which was formed by the evaporation of ancient seas, where the main activity is the extraction of salt in traditional way as the process of drying, grinding and bagging. Colchani is only 2 km away from Salt Lake where it was extracted the salt. This salt plain is made by about 11 layers of salt; its thickness varies between 2 and 10 meters. It is estimated that there is 10 billion tons of salt, so it would be one of the biggest reserves of lithium in the world. Arrival to Isla Incawasi. Then lunch on the island.
